  Faqs - Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to charter a Cruising Cat?
From as little as $599 a day, depending on time and season (see Prices page).

Who can drive a Cruising Cat?
Any one over the age of 21 with a current motor vehicle drivers licence.

Do I need a boat licence?
No formal qualifications or great skills are required to hire a boat from Cruising Cats. If you can drive a car and have practical common sense you should be able to operate our cruising catamarans.

How many people are allowed onboard a Cruising Cat?
Sleeps between 6 to 8 people and 12 out for the day.

How big are the vessels?
All our boats are Highland 35 catamaran motor cruisers. They are 35 feet or approx.10 metres long and 5.3 metres or 17.3 feet wide (in other words spacious).

What is onboard?
All vessels are fully equipped with cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, refrigeration, bed linen and towels. (see Boats page).

What do I bring?
As this is a bare boat charter, basically just bring your food, drinks and clothing. We supply you with a ‘What to Bring List’ when you book.

How far can we take the boat?
You can take the boat in the waterways of the Pittwater and up the Hawkesbury River right up to Wiseman’s Ferry. This includes Cowan Creek, Bobbin Head, Coal & Candle Creek.

What about water and fuel?
The water tanks onboard hold sufficient drinkable water and will last 3 – 5 days, based on average consumption. Because of the limited supply please use it carefully and not waste it.

Your catamaran will have a full tank of diesel fuel that is sufficient for approximately 4 days, based on average consumption. We would suggest that your budget approximately $30 a day for fuel (see Prices page for rates). There is an hour metre on the boat that records motoring hours for you to check your progress.

Is there a water taxis service in the area?
Yes, Pink Water Taxis operates from Church Point (see Links page).

Where are the nearest shops & bank?
From Quays Marina they are located at Mona Vale, which includes a Woolworth’s Supermarket and a variety of shops and services (8 minutes south near Pittwater/Barrenjoey Road junction). Whilst out on the water there are also shops located at Church Point, Cottage Point, Sandy Beach (Barrenjoey or Palm Beach area) Bobbin Head, Akuna Bay, Brooklyn and Wisemans Ferry.

Are there any restaurants we can visit?
Yes. There are several restaurants located in the cruising area, some only accessible by water. We have included a list on our Links page.

Is there any music/entertainment onboard?
All Cruising Cats vessels have radios, DVD, CD players and videos.

What happens if we get into trouble?
Firstly take three deep breaths and stay calm. If you are unable to find a solution in your Operations Manual you can either contact us or the local rescue service as per the Operations Manual (depending on the situation & location). It is also advisable to take your mobile phone as an additional means of contact.

Can we cruise at night?
Sorry, but the Waterways Authority does not permit charter boats to travel at night.

What sort of power is onboard?
12 Volt power for everything.

Can I bring the cat or dog onboard?
Sorry, no pets or firearms are allowed in the National Parks area.

Can we fish in the Pittwater?
There are many excellent fishing areas in the charter area and if you are over 18 and want to fish, we suggest you obtain a licence at Waterways (now called NSW Marine) before you leave.

Can we drink and drive?
No, the road rules apply to the water. However, if you are safety moored with the engine off you can drink, but please remember that noise carries over water.

Where is Cruising Cats Located?
Quays Marina, 1856 Pittwater Road, Church Point, NSW 2015 (See Home page for Map Link)

How do I get there from downtown Sydney?
We are located about 45 minutes north of the Sydney CBD. You can either drive up the Wakehurst Parkway, Pittwater Road or Mona Vale Roads, turn left at the Pittwater/Barrenjoey Roads junction (signposted to Church Point) and we are about 8 minutes along Pittwater Road, just past the Sailing Club (See Home page for Map Link).
